CRO CSCS Card
Are you ready for the withdrawel of the CRO card?
The end of September 2017 marked the expiration of some CRO cards that cannot be renewed
The construction industry is preparing for the withdrawal of the Construction Related Occupation (CRO) card as it moves towards full qualification.
CSCS will no longer issue CRO cards as of 31 March 2017, and all CRO cards issued since October 2015 expired on 30 September 2017*. If you require a CSCS card the Green Labourers card is open to you, but you must attend the CITB HSA one day course, or its equivalent.
In 2015 the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) announced that skills certification card schemes carrying the CSCS logo must operate with nationally recognised qualifications (NVQs or approved equivalents) in place for all occupations.
The CRO card was designed for those occupations for which there were no nationally recognised qualifications and, as such, does not meet the requirements of the CLC. The withdrawal of the card is a practical step towards achieving the CLC’s requirement of ensuring nationally recognised qualifications are in place for all construction occupations.
The removal of the CRO card affects over 230,000 cardholders and the issue of an alternative card will depend on the occupation and qualifications held by the applicant.
CRO cardholders can find out what steps they need to take to replace their card by inputting their occupation into the card finder function on the CSCS website. Cardholders who do not take the necessary steps to replace their cards will find they will be unable to obtain another CSCS card after 30 September 2017.
*CRO cards issued before October 2015 will remain valid until their expiry date.
